When I decided to begin eating a healthier diet, I found it was very difficult because of the shortage of healthy recipes and lack of selection at grocery stores. I got tired of eating basic, plain meals like brown rice and vegetables. I wanted more variety and more flavor. I also have a sweet tooth but I didn't want to eat food that was full of white sugar and white flour. In the grocery store, I found it very difficult to buy food that was everything I was looking for. For example, I could find whole wheat pita bread but it would also contain chemicals and white sugar. It was very rare to find products that were not only whole grain but also did not use artificial sweeteners, chemicals, etc. and when I did, they weren't always affordable.
This website is not about cutting calories or fat (although more often than not that is the result). It is not about losing weight. In fact, I never use artificial sweeteners or any similar product.
I try to eat nutritious, healthy food that consists of natural, organic, whole, and unprocessed ingredients as much as possible. And you will find that by making meals and other healthy creations yourself, rather than trying to find them in stores, it is actually quite achievable to do so.
There were many things that seemed very intimidating to try to make myself. However, once I did it, I found that they were actually so much easier than I would've thought, not to mention affordable and satisfying. One thing that has helped me immensely is having a bread machine to make dough for me. It saves much time and effort and I don't have to clean up a big mess around the kitchen afterwards. It can also bake bread and make pasta dough, pizza dough, and jam.
On this website, I have provided recipes for everyday staples such as bread and buns, using whole grain flours such as whole wheat, spelt, kamut, and buckwheat. I have also included recipes to satisfy your sweet tooth. I don't believe in trying to completely restrict yourself by entirely cutting out something that you love but I do believe in using healthier alternatives. Baking sweets that use nutritious ingredients such as oats and fruit make a big difference. I also use more natural sweeteners such as honey, molasses, maple syrup, and agave nectar. And you'd be surprised how satisfying a smoothie made entirely out of fruit and a bit of yogurt is for your sweet tooth.
These recipes can be done by anyone. If you don't believe it, give it a try. Enjoy!
