It only takes a trip down the cereal aisle at the grocery store to see that these days, cereal is not the nutritious breakfast that your grandpa grew up eating before a long hard day's work on the farm! Full of sugar and white flour, most store bought cereal yields empty calories and little nutritional value. I am a firm believer that what you start off your day eating will have an effect on your cravings and overall feelings of health and happiness throughout the day.
In contrast, homemade cereal can pack a serious nutritional punch to start your day off right! They can fill you up for hours to come and keep your energy levels (and sugar levels) much more consistent and stabilized. The best part about them is that you can basically put anything you want in them. These are the types of recipes you can get really creative with! If you start feeling bored with adding the same things to the cereal, just switch it up and come out with a great new breakfast cereal. My grandpa switched to eating muesli for breakfast every morning over a decade ago. He was a farmer that worked on the family orchard that I grew up on. He had to get up early in the morning in the spring and summer months to pick fruit before it became unbearably hot. Before he started eating muesli, his stomach would start grumbling a couple hours after he ate breakfast and he would find himself watching the clock until lunchtime came around so he could eat again. After he started eating muesli every morning, he could work past lunch time and was shocked to see how much time had gone by without even a glance at the clock! | |||||||
