There's nothing like the smell of homemade bread baking in your kitchen! This category contains healthy breads and buns that would not fit in the sweet loaves category. Most of these recipes use yeast. The only ones that don't are the cornbread recipes.
I see these breads and buns as something you would pair with savory dishes. For example, something you could eat with a salad or dip in a soup or stew. For most of these, except the cornbreads, I use a bread machine. However, I am a sucker for oven-baked bread as I grew up eating my grandma's homemade bread. Even though I'm not necessary willing to put in the time and work to hand knead bread dough, for very little work you can drastically improve the taste and appearance of your bread by baking the bread dough in the oven rather than letting it bake in the bread machine. You will need a bread pan for this though. Just set your bread machine to the dough cycle before you start it and when it's done, remove the kneading paddles from the dough. Form it into a log that is roughly the same length as your bread pan. Place the dough into your oiled bread pan and cover with a tea towel in a warm place for 45-60 minutes. I usually bake the bread at 375F for 27-35 minutes. | |||||||
